How do emergency response teams respond in a disaster? Will I be able to call 911? Who will be able to help me?

Today we have enough fireman, police officers, hospital workers, etc….to help with the individualized disasters we have every day. But when it is a widespread disaster there are not enough individuals staffed to help everyone. 911 phone lines are jammed, hospitals go on lock down because they will be flooded with people, firefighters who normally tag team with other teams in the county to fight fires will now be trying to fight more than they are capable and missing most, some gas stations will only be servicing emergency teams because a running ambulance is much more important than a family car, all phone lines will be overloaded even if they survive the disaster and not destroyed, plus emergency teams are told to help their families first so they can be focused before they come into work. So in short, you will most likely not be getting help from emergency teams and if you are one of the lucky few it might be a while before the help comes. I am not talking hours….we are talking days…if any.
This is the wake up call.
This information was taught to me in multiple classes taken from different representatives all in charge of preparedness for my state. It makes perfect sense. Why would they over staff? They can’t afford it nor would they be of any use until a disaster.
So what do we do?
This is why it is so important you and your family are personally prepared and learn how to be self reliant so you can depend on yourselves and not on emergency personnel….. and maybe even be able to help your neighbor. This is where we find peace. Peace in being prepared.
